Last night, in his election-year State of the Union address, President Obama set forth a long list of domestic economic proposals, many of which centered on jobs and changing the tax code. If you missed it, or just want to pour over the details in the light of day, now you can watch the speech and follow along with fact checks and analysis from Times reporters here.

Watch this amazing/terrifying video from NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York. They monitor global surface temperatures on an ongoing basis, and have just released this updated analysis that shows temperatures around the globe in 2011 compared to the average global temperature from the mid-20th century.

Their video shows how Earth continues to experience warmer temperatures than several decades ago,  but what is most terrifying is how rapidly we seem to be heating up.
