George W. Bush’s close margin with Hispanics was an aberration.

Democrats have won Hispanics in every election since 1976 (1976: D+64; 1980: D+19; 1984: D+32; 1988: D+40; 1992: D+36; 1996: D+52; 2000: D+27; 2004: D+9; 2008: D+36). In 2004, President Bush garnered 44% of the Hispanic vote—the highest on record for a Republican—despite a position on immigration that at the time was hostile to a path to citizenship. This reduced the Democratic margin with Hispanics to 9 points—the only election in which Democrats won Hispanic voters by single digit margins.

Hispanic voters in Florida are registering at record numbers…as Independents. 
Since 2008, the number of Hispanic registered voters has increased by 195,365, or 14.4%. 
Nearly as many Hispanic voters have registered as Independents as have registered as Democrats or Republicans combined—96,296 for the former and 96,954 for the latter. 
There are now more Hispanics registered as Independents in Florida than as Republicans, which was not the case in 2008.
